If you use images on your website or blog, you can now make a little money with them.

Pixazza, which launches today and hopes to be the “AdSense for images”, matches products in photos on its participating sites with similar products available for purchase.

It basically helps bloggers become affiliate marketers, able to cash in on Pixazza’s merchant network.

You simply need to create a free account and embed the code in the header section of your website. Then your images (even from previously published content — win!) are added to Pixazza’s shoppers’ queue and once each image has been analyzed, a call to action will appear over each image.

Merchants in Pixazza’s shopper catalogue include power-packed retail operations like Zappos, Amazon, BlueFly, Pacsun, Torrid, and Rampage.

If you’re looking to earn even a little MORE cash, you can sign up to be one their human-powered product matching investigators. The money you make from Pixazza, however, directly correlates to transactions that occur as a result of the products you identified, so it’s 100% commission-based.

Every week I get a dozen or so of press releases in my email inbox. Usually they come from companies that are launching a new website or service, and that want to get some free exposure. Needless to say that I skip virtually all of those.

Yesterday, however, a very intriguing press release hit my inbox. It was from a company called MyWebDownload.com. After reading through a couple of lines, I was surprised to see the service that they are offering: they basically allow users from around the world to download the World Wide Web! That is right, you can download the whole thing to your computer and be able to surf offline after that.

Needless to say that I was skeptical, but here is what I found on the FAQ that they have on the site:

Q: Isn’t the Web too big to for anyone to be able to download it?
If we consider the whole World Wide Web, yes it would be impossible to download it. The latest numbers from Google estimate that there are around 40 billion pages on the Web. If we then estimate that each page has 10KB on average, that is already 400,000,000,000 KB, or 400 Terabytes!

It turns out, however, that 90% of those websites are pornographic or gambling related. Once we removed those, therefore, the size of The Web was reduced to 10% of its initial value, or 40,000,000,000 KB (40 Terabytes).

After that we removed the illegal MP3 and movie downloads, and the YouTube videos. This further reduced the size of The Web to 3,444,000,000 (or 3,444 Terabytes), and that is the size of our file collection.

I guess it makes sense.

The files are very big, each with over 100 Gigabytes. The site recommend users to use a download manager software to make sure that they will be able to pause and restart downloads if necessary.

On the company website they also mention that they are developing a product version, where you will pay $49 and receive 132 DVDs in your house with The Web. The product is not available yet though.

Overall it is a nice idea, and certainly a website to keep an eye on.

I guess it was not too difficult to block ads on preview pages.

Why is it good that they blocked Adsense ads on WordPress Preview pages – No false impressions inflating cost for CPM advertisers. No accidental clicks on your own Adsense ads. Google Adsense bot visits your final published page only for better targeting. No falsely raised ad page impressions, modifying your Adsense ad statistics reports.

Out of all the questions that I see throughout the forums, there is one that really stands out that we will explore today. How to get Google to index your site fast. To understand how to get indexed, we need to examine how google actually indexes sites. Let’s pretend you have a brand new site. You have built some content and you are now waiting and wondering when Google is going to notice you. Google spiders crawl through the internet looking for new things all the time. Typically, they discover sites via links that are pointing out to someone else’s site.

* In other words, let’s say that you are Site A. You have no links from any other sites.
* You happen to go to a popular forum and point a link to your site in your signature.
* Google crawls this site. This is what happens. Going from the top left of the forum, they will start to gather words and move on down. Each time they reach a link, they place this “in queue” to visit once they are finished crawling the page.
* They find your site link and will eventually follow it to your site, and crawl your page looking for more links to follow.
* And so on and so forth.

Some pages get crawled more often. This depends largely on how active the site it. In some cases, a site is crawled every minute because the site is constantly changing.. Alternatively, some sites are crawled once a month because the site doesn’t update very often.

In addition to this, not all sites get crawled equally. For instance, if your link is one of a hundred links on a page, then Google may or may not reach your site. If your site is a one page site (like Squidoo), then it is likely that Google won’t reach your link because the page would be considered “deep” within the site.

So assuming that this is fact (which it is), in order to get indexed fast, which site would provide you with the best chance of getting known?

Here are a list of sites that will help you get indexed by Google quickly-

* EzineArticles- Writing an article for EzineArticles will get you indexed not only because there are so many changes happening daily BUT also because EzineArticles will place your initial article on the front page. In other words, Google won’t have to reach deep into the website to find your link.
* RSS directories- Additionally, RSS directories are a great way to get indexed quick because not only are there a lot of changes, but many people will pick up RSS feeds and place them on their site.
* Social Sites like Digg and Sphinn- Once again, it happens because these types of sites are constantly changing and your site is listed in more than one spot.

Getting your site indexed by Google super fast isn’t that hard. You just need to know how Google indexes websites and go where Google is most likely to be indexing sites.

Who wouldn’t want to learn from my mistakes?

All self-hosting wordpress bloggers have to upgrade whenever a new version of Wordpress is released, not only to get new features and bug fixes, but also eliminate security loophoes easily exploited by hackers to hack your blog. Now Google webmaster tools will warn blog owners when their old wordpress versions are prone to hacking.

Google is presently running a limited test and warning webmasters who are hosting Wordpress 2.1.1, which was known to be vulnerable to exploits. Remember how a cracker gained user-level access to one of the servers that powers wordpress.org, and modifed the wordpress 2.1.1 download files. They say if the test goes well, they will expand these messages to include other types of software on the web.

Here is a sample message which affected users will get.

I think this is a good way to warn wordpress bloggers about old versions at high security risk. But when someone has not upgraded wordpress for over a year, there is a high chance they have become inactive and stopped blogging. Upgrading wordpress is an essential task for wordpress bloggers (one of the benefits of hosting on Wordpress.com). Anyone can find out your wordpress version easily, so it is recommeded you drop version string in header.php. Stay safe with the latest version of Wordpress.

Currently you need a gmail invite to your email id by someone to open a new gmail account. Now US users can get gmail invites via SMS on their mobile phones.

This new way to sign up for Gmail is to help protect users and combat spam and abuse. Just go to the Gmail mobile invitation code page and enter your mobile phone number. You will get a text message with an invitation code to create your account. You will need to have a mobile phone with text message capabilities. Currently this promotion in the United States only.

If your mobile number privacy is a concern, remember Google will store each phone number to make sure it is used to create no more than 10 accounts. If you want to open an account a different way, you may want to ask a friend with a mobile phone to receive an invitation code for you or to ask someone you know who already has a Gmail account to email you an invitation.

How many times have you been tricked by phishing emails from ebay or Paypal? Gmail has gone a step further to protect users by authenticating all emails from these services, such that they are rejected even before they reach your email inbox.

DomainKeys is an e-mail authentication system designed to verify the DNS domain of an e-mail sender and the message integrity. The DomainKeys specification has adopted aspects of Identified Internet Mail to create an enhanced protocol called DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM).

eBay and PayPal will now ensure all their email is signed with DomainKeys and DKIM and hence, Gmail can now easily detect and reject fake emails that don’t authenticate. This is a welcome step by Google, Ebay and Paypal that will really help to protect personal and financial information and now lesser number of people will be duped and subject to fraud by these phishing scams.

The best way I use to avoid phishing is not to click any email link, but rather type the domain name in the browser location bar (look for typos) before visiting the site. You can also report fake Paypal emails and spoof sites to Paypal. Is your gmail spam down?
